Patrick SEEMS to respond to topamax (topiramate) on top of his daily flunarizine.
He was prescribed topamax early on when epilepsy was suspected. Thankfully, Pat is one of those who hasn't had any real seizures. BUT, when we tried to reduce his topamax he immediately had a series of really bad attacks with longer periods of paresis.
The flunarizine made the biggest difference to reducing the severity of pat's attacks, but the topamax definitely seems to help.
Is anyone else finding topamax works for them?

Joanne has recently (Dec 09 ) started topamax but for her epilepsy. It is not sure if it is making any difference to her hemi's yet, she needs to reduce the tegretol. We will then see if it makes any difference. She had been having some unuauall seizures where she would go completely floppy then quickly very pale and then blue , her eyes would bop rappidly, she would then appear not to be breathing for a min/30 sec she would then take a deep breath and recover sometimes followed by a hemiplegic bilateral attack sometimes not. She also has had an increase in hemi/seizure attacks. hense the topamax. She is given midazolam when she has a bilateral hemi and it seems to work well in stopping an attack if given within 30 mins.
