Wondering if anyone else has experience with such a long hemi.
Just over 3 weeks ago, pat had a regular right side hemi. It was strong, but by the third day there were signs that his right arm and leg were starting to recover.
On the 4th day he went into a super strong left side hemi, and then his rightside went again and he was in a full biplegic attack. This is the first time he's had one of those so it was pretty scary for us.
After about a week his right arm and leg came back, but his left was out. His arm, leg, and all his left side torso muscles so it was difficult for him to even sit up propped on the sofa. This is odd, as pat very very rarely has left side hemis. They're almost always rights and the lefts he does have usually only last a few hours. His left side was out so throughly that it didn't even return while he was sleeping so he would wake up everytime he wanted to roll over.
Two weeks in to the attack we got him into physio every day. His leg responded well and has slowly got stronger and he is now walking short distances again. His arm is a different story though. It alternates between being really tense and cramped up (spastic? dystonic?) and being really floppy. He has not control of it whatsoever.
I'm worried that this last attack may have damaged his brain. He lost some other skills, like sucking on a straw, and these have only just returned. We'd be devastated if he never got his arm back again.
Anyone else had such a prolonged attack? Do you think its the ahc or something else?
